Mandatory Annual Requirements

National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)

Reporting for the National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) has become a mandatory requirement since 1992 when it was established to collect data on substances of concern in Canada. Managed by Environment Canada under the legal authority of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999), and amended in 2022, the purpose of the NPRI is to identify and track all sources of pollution in Canada in order to monitor and improve pollution control efforts. If your facility emits any of the substances tracked by Environment Canada, you must report the level of emissions for each substance by June 1st of every year. The information in the report is made public and provides great motivation for organizations to reduce their emissions.

What Information Is Reported through the NPRI?

NPRI Reporting does not simply consist of compiling a list of which substances are present and how much. The report must also detail how the materials are controlled, whether they are disposed of or transferred, and where they go if they are transferred. The report must also disclose information such as:

  • Pollution prevention strategies used by the facility
  • Industry classification
  • Size of the company (number of employees)
  • Location information for the facility

Envirovision assists over 100 clients on an annual basis to stay in compliance with all of the reporting requirements in Toronto, GTA and Ontario.

Our NPRI Reporting services include:

  • Review of the Facility’s Safety Data Sheets (inventory of reportable substances)
  • Prepare List of Materials Containing Reporting Substances
  • Calculate Reporting Thresholds
  • Determine the Facility’s Emissions/Releases
  • Annual Reporting
